Oh, what a night...
On Friday evening, September 15, 2017, 100+ people gathered at Friends Home, on Congress Street in Newtown, to celebrate the success of the Lift Your Spirits Capital Campaign for a new elevator and to toast the Organization’s 120th year of serving the community with moderately priced, small-community retirement living in a caring environment.
Exactly one hundred years ago, Friends Home installed its first elevator that is still used today, and during that time, Teddy Roosevelt visited Friends Home and donated a signed set of his six-volume autobiography that made him famous.
As a tribute to Teddy Roosevelt’s support of Friends Home, actor, Tim Irvine, who has an uncanny resemblance to Roosevelt, portrayed him at the party. The former President’s favorite drink, Mint Juleps, were served along with delicious food, a champagne toast to hail the success of twelve decades and two special cakes decorated to look just like the original and new elevators.
Acme Market, McCaffrey’s Markets, Madara’s Seafood, Newtown Chocolatier, Solebury Orchards and Starbucks generously donated some of the evening’s food and beverages.
Guests enjoyed well-known pianist, David Barry’s, magical playing and the fun of a silent auction. Noted Botanical Artist, Carol Ashton-Hergenham, FHV Chair of the Board, contributed one of her beautiful prints for auction in addition to a lead gift for the campaign. Alternate Dimension Toys, The Caketeria/ Newtown, Countryside Framing, Flowers by Vincent at One South Sycamore, GAP Body, La Stalla, Newtown Arts Company, Newtown Floral Company, OISHI, Solebury Orchard, Rita’s Water Ice, Vecchia Osteria by Pasquale and the Zebra Striped Whale contributed goods and certificates along with gifts from individual members of the FH&V family. The party was a huge success and FH&V is grateful for the great turnout and all the generous donations.
